Johnny Anthony Urquizu - "J.R." - 7/23/65 - 6/18/17

JR, Age 51, died peacefully in his sleep on June 18, 2017 at 5:03 am, in his Yucaipa Nursing Care Facility where he has resided for the past two years.
Although JR miraculously battled back after several serious incidents of pneumonia over the past 2 years, the continued progression of Alzheimer's along with his weakened immunities, finally opened the door for JR to follow the call of our Lord.
JR was born July 23, 1965 with Down's Syndrome. Despite the Hospital Medical staff's recommendation to have JR institutionalized parents Josie and John Urquizu disregarded the suggested path. Instead followed their hearts and their trust in God and they chose to raise Johnny themselves and embrace his special needs.
Through the tireless devotion of his "Mamacita" (Josie), JR learned to read and write. He ultimately attended school for special needs, which enabled him to learn more. He was able to go out into the community and work for pay in such jobs as gardening and janitorial services. JR also learned sign language and made everyone proud of him when he earned his High School Diploma.
John (Daddy) always referred to JR as his "Special Blessing". JR therefore grew up knowing that he was "special" and he loved the attention he drew. In turn he loved people, and he loved socializing and visiting with everyone he met.
JR was also very physically active. He excelled in such activities as bowling, bike riding, kayaking, swimming, hiking and he also participated in the Special Olympics in the 50-yard Dash, and Standing Broad Jump. JR also loved attending CAMP each year where he participated in horseback riding, canoeing, basketball, softball and other great experiences.
Johnny is preceded in death by his Father, John V. Urquizu. He is the 3rd of 4 children and is survived by his loving Mother, Josie, his 3 siblings, Jeanne (Nelson), Julie and Jim (Laura) and nephew Joshua.
The family takes comfort in the thought that JR left this world on 6/18/17, Father's day to join his Father (John) in heaven, and he left behind the memory of his wonderful innocence, his unconditional love of family and friends, and his amazing smile and laughter..
Thank you JR for teaching us soooo much, you were truly an ANGEL sent from Heaven.
